Skills for Identifying and Preventing Online Scams to Protect Citizens in Cyberspace

To enhance public awareness and minimize the risks of online scams, the Ministry of Information and Communications has launched the campaign “Skills for Identifying and Preventing Online Scams to Protect Citizens in Cyberspace 2024.”

Online fraud is an issue of growing concern across society. Cybercriminals take advantage of the rapid development of information technology to carry out numerous online scams, often resulting in significant financial losses. According to the Department of Information Security, in the first nine months of 2024, more than 22,200 reports of online scams were submitted by Internet users to the Vietnam Cybersecurity Warning Portal.

Preventing online scams is not only the responsibility of government agencies but also a shared duty of society as a whole. Protecting oneself in cyberspace is an ongoing journey that requires vigilance and continuous effort. Each individual must equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a safe and smart Internet user.

Beyond technical measures, raising public awareness and providing both basic and advanced skills are among the most effective ways to combat the negative impacts of online scams. When people develop strong skills in identifying and preventing online scams, they become more cautious, ultimately helping to reduce the prevalence of cyber fraud.

As part of this campaign, the Ministry of Information and Communications has introduced the “Handbook on Skills for Identifying and Preventing Online Scams” to enhance public awareness, improve scam detection and prevention skills, and provide essential guidance for safe Internet use.
